Orange Free State 1896 (Oct.) " 1/2d" and "Halve/Penny" on 3d. Ultramarine A mint collection comprising four strips of three, two being with " 1/2" in Type a and two in Type g, a further strip of three in Type g with variety " 1/2" double, and twelve singles in various types including three with bar at top; generally good to fine and an interesting group of these "trial" stamps. Also " 1/2" on 3d. block of four used on1 October 1896, the first recorded date of use at Trommel, another dated at Zand River on 7 October, and "Halve/Penny" on 3d. used on 5 October at Zand River, the earliest recorded date of use of this surcharge.
