Falkland Islands Covers and Cancellations — 1898 (18 Jan.) 1d. printed to private order 1d. pink mourning stationery envelope, uprated with 1887 1 1/2d., from Portsmouth to a serving officer on H.M.S. Beagle, a Darwin Survey ship at "South East coast of America" and redirected to him on board H.M.S. Swallow at Port Stanley, showing Montevideo maritime c.d.s. (18.2) and Falkland Islands (date unclear) c.d.s.; small part of flap missing, otherwise fine and most unusual. Photo Estimate £ 400-500 Note: The cover was carried on the steamer "Neko", which arrived at Port Stanley on 23rd. February 1898. H.M.S. "Swallow" arrived at Stanley on 31st. January, and left on 1 April 1898 provenance: Earl Spencer, 1993
