Antarctica 1911-14 Australian Antarctic Expedition by Douglas Mawson Third Voyage 1913 (17 Mar.) envelope too Christchurch, bearing Tasmania Pictorial 1d. red and Australian Commonwealth Kangaroo 1d. red both neatly cancelled with Hobart c.d.s., showing a fine strike of the "loose ship´s letter/s.y. aurora/posted in/antarctica/a.a.e."", "australian antarctic/expedition" and "commander of ship." expedition cachets in blue-black and signed "J.K. Davis" by the Commander of the Aurora; the envelope fractionally truncated and with a vertical crease, none of which significantly affect the overall appearance of this rare cover. Photo Estimate £ 800-1,000 Note: The "Aurora" returned on 15 January to collect the expedition. She left on 1 February before Mawson returned from a disastrous sledging trip on which two of his companions died. Six members stayed behind to search for Mawson and the seven over-wintered until 12 December when "Aurora" returned to collect them
