Gibraltar Mail to or via Gibraltar 1845 (7 July) entire letter from Vivero "pr el vapor de la Coruna", rated "2/2" and showing Galicia c.d.s. and h.s. "6", both in bright green, and British Post Office "corunna" double-arc d.s. (11.7) in red, the reverse with large cursive "a" in green, presumably applied at Galicia, and London c.d.s. (15.7); colourful and an unusual cover through the short-lived routing via Corunna. Photo Estimate £ 500-600 Note: At times when the overland route through France was closed, mail was diverted from Madrid by the twice weekly mail coach to Corunna where the British Consul arranged for it to go to England by ship. The charge was 2/2 which was the ship letter rate for a double letter. The service operated for a short period from 1845-1846
