Ireland, Republic, Ten Pence (2), reduced module type, 1992, harp, rev. leaping salmon (KM-), uncirculated, in official presentation case, extremely rare date 1992, these possibly the only examples ever offered at auction (2) Estimate £ 8,000-10,000 In 1992 the Irish mint planned the introduction of a new reduced size Ten Pence coin to replace the older and larger coin which was the size of pre-decimalisation Two Shilling piece. The new size coin was to be in similar metal and the same size as the old Shilling piece. In anticipation of the coin being introduced in 1992 a small quantity of the new size Ten-Pence coins dated 1992 were produced and released for vending testing and packaging. However it was then decided to defer the introduction of this new size coin until 1993. No examples of the small module Ten Pence dated 1992 were known until now. These two coins were acquired by the vendor from a company to which these had been issued which subsequently went into liquidation with its assets sold.
