Charles I, Civil War issues, Oxford, small module type Triple Unite, 26.90g, 1644, m.m. plume/-, king half-length left, crowned, armoured, holding sword and laurel branch, Oxford plume behind, crown touching inner circle, rev. legend and Declaration on continuous scroll, plumes above, below, date, oxon (cf. B-J dies VIII/L8; cf. Brooker 842- same dies; cf. Schneider II 304-same dies; N.2385; S.2729), weakly struck on reverse, very fine / good very fine, extremely rare Estimate £ 50,000-60,000 provenance Bought Spink, October 1996 SNC, November 1996, no. 5265 SNC February 1991, no.161 The obverse die of this coin is the same as Brooker 842 and Schneider 304, however the detail of the king´s bust has been subject to reworking notably on the shoulder armour, the cross surmounting the crown and the lace below the king´s chin. This reworking of the die has not previously been noted and no other example of this second state obverse die appears to have been recorded.
