Auction: 1012 - Ancient, English & Foreign Coins & Commemorative Medals
Lot: 735

India, Photographic Society of India, gold prize medal by J.S. and A.B. Wyon, seated figure holding tablet, rev. f binning 1st prize portraits within wreath, edge engraved salon 1903, 25mm., 12.38g. (cf. Puddester 948.27.3, not listed in this size, and not listed in gold), good very fine, extremely rare Estimate £ 300-400 Puddester lists a 51mm. version of this medal, with signatures of J.S. and A.B. Wyon, in silver and bronze, but he does not list the smaller size, nor does he list a gold medal in any size. However he does list 51mm. and 25mm. medals in gold, silver and bronze, for what he takes to be another medal for the same society (Puddester 948.27.5), supposedly with a seated man on the obverse. It is possible that this is in fact the same medal, for he notes ´The illustration of the obverse of this medal in the Calcutta Mint die impression register is extremely poor, thus the description of the obverse of this medal is tentative.´
