Pamphylia, Side (?) (c.370 BC), AR Stater, 10.75g, Athena standing left, holding Nike and leaning left hand on shield at her side, a spear held under left arm, a coiled snake with erect head before her, Pamphylian script behind, rev. Apollo standing left, a quiver at his shoulder, wearing chiton and chlamys, sacrificing from phiale over lighted altar on left, and leaning on wooden staff with shoot near bottom, Pamphylian script behind (cf. Atlan), struck on a large flan with excellent metal, delightful late classical style, about extremely fine Estimate £ 1,800-2,500 An unpublished type. The lack of a pomegranate argues against an attribution to Side, and this may have been struck elsewhere in Pamphylia. provenance: Leu, 17 May 1995, lot 161
