g Victoria (1837-1901), an impaired proof set, 1839, gold Five-Pounds, young head left, six scrolls on front fillet, eleven full leaves on rear fillet, rev. dirige deus gressus meos, Una and the lion, edge with small letters between raised rims (L&S 17), with hairlines and light scuffs, and one serious mark, above the lion´s eye, small marks around the edge and one knock near 12 o´clock on the reverse, otherwise extremely fine, Sovereign and Half-Sovereign, young head left, rev. shield, both also with hairlines and light scuffs, both with marks on the edge, otherwise extremely fine, silver Crown, Halfcrown, Shilling, Sixpence, and Maundy set, lacking the Groat and with an extra Threepence, this dated 1878, all polished, very fine, copper Penny, Halfpenny and Farthing, these about uncirculated (S.PS3), in contemporary fitted case, this slightly scuffed but otherwise in very good condition (15) Estimate £ 25,000-30,000 The very good condition of the case and the copper coins tells us that this set has been ´lovingly mishandled´, the gold often looked at and admired (and dropped) and the silver often cleaned. It is good to know, but sad to see, that the Victorian owners of this set appreciated it so much.
