Gomes 22.02; Scholten 1207), host coin very fine, stamps extremely fine, rare Estimate £ 600-800 In the 17th century foreign silver coins were countermarked by the Dutch at Fort Gelria, Pulicat, before being released for circulation. This was to prevent the import and circulation of unstamped coins, which could be obtained more cheaply than the rate sanctioned by the VOC.
