Lot: 250
William III, Halfpenny, 1697, laureate, cuirassed bust, right, rev. Britannia, error legend, reading brita-nia (Peck 650; S.-), small area of ver-de-gris at start of reverse legend, very fine, known only for a few examples, very rare Estimate £ 200-250 Peck noted that the missing letter n might not be a genuine error with weakness in the die in the area of the arm very obvious on this coin. However all the other letters are strongly struck on this coin and there is no sign of first letter n here, which seems to support this being a genuine error rather than otherwise.
