Egypt, Mohamed Said (1854-63), bronze medal by Stern-Aumoitte, Paris, allegorical figures of Commerce, holding caduceus and cornucopia and attended by Art and Industry, and Egypt, holding tablet inscribed 16 juilliet and resting left foot on the sphinx, la colonie europeenne a s.a mohamed said vice roi d´egypte, rev. a crocodile on the bank of the Nile between two obelisks, pyramids and sphinx in the background, arabic legend around, 76mm. (Page-Divo 199, 190.4), some minor edge bruising, good very fine, attractive rich brown patina, very rare Estimate £ 200-300 Mohamed Saiid Pasha became vice-roi of Egypt on the death of his uncle Abbas Pasha, 16th July 1854, and governed Egypt until his death in 1863.
