London Gazette 23.6.1915 Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel (Rear-Admiral, retired) Gerald Charles Adolphe Marescaux, Deputy Assistant Quartermaster-General (Base) Vice-Admiral Charles Adolphe Marescaux, C.B., C.M.G., R.N., born Paddington, Middlesex, 1860; joined the Royal Navy as a Cadet, 1873; advanced Commander 1896 and was in command of H.M.S. Dido at the Diamond Jubilee Review the following year; served in Dockyard Reserve, Sheerness, 1898-1900; in command of H.M.S. Proserpine, 1900-1901, and Pactolus, 1902-1903; Captain 31.12.1903; Captain of H.M.S. Europa, 1905-1907, and the Kent, 1907-1909, during which time the King expressed his appreciation ´of the care with which certain presents sent to him by the Sultan of Keddah and the Rajah of Perlis have been brought undamaged to this country in Kent; in command of cruiser division, Devonport, 1910; in command of North of Ireland Coastguard, District, 1.6.1910-3.6.1912; King´s Harbour Master at Portland, 1.9.1913-21.4.1914; advanced Rear-Admiral, 15.12.1913; in September 1914 permission was granted for Marescaux to serve as Interpreter in French to the British Forces and in November he was appointed under the War Office as Assistant Military Landing Officer, Overseas; serving in the latter capacity he was appointed Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel in the Army, 4.11.1914 (C.M.G.; France, Legion of Honour, Commander, London Gazette 25.9.1917); retired 4.11.1915; advanced Vice-Admiral 9.1.1919; died 3.9.1920.
