The Royal Victorian Order, a Scarce 19th Century Knight Commander´s set of Insignia, neck Badge, 50mm, silver-gilt and enamel; Star, 70mm, silver and enamel, with gold retaining pin, un-numbered as issued, extremely fine (2) Estimate £ 700-900 The Royal Victorian Order was instituted by Queen Victoria in 1896, and the second class of the order, the K.C.V.O., was bestowed 23 times during her reign. All insignia issued during this period was un-numbered, the practise of consecutively numbering the insignia of the Order beginning with the reign of Edward VII in 1901. Attributed to Sir Francis Laking and retained by him on his promotion to the grade of Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.
