Turkey, Ottoman Empire, Medal for the Great Earthquake 1894 (AH 1312), 28mm, silver, reverse privately engraved, with silver loop suspension, good very fine, rare Estimate £ 1,400-1,800 This medal was issued following the Great Earthquake of the 10th July 1894, the most recent earthquake to strike Constantinople. It measured 10 on the Mercalli scale and destroyed most of the structures of the city and the surrounding communities. This medal was awarded to all those who contributed to the victims of the earthquake.
