Company´s medal only had the ´Matabeleland 1897´ reverse die type in stock, and have used this version when either an undated reverse or, more probably, a ´Matabeleland 1893´ reverse die type would have represented the wearer´s correct entitlement. Had the recipient come to Spink, he would have undoubtedly been supplied with the correct medal.
