Texian Loan, 8%, 1836, bond for $320, first installment of $32, no.474, signed by Stephen Austin as one of the commissioners of the new Republic, ornate border, black, printed by Benjamin Levy of New Orleans, cut cancelled with usual small triangular piece removed from centre. Estimate £ 350 Following the declaration of Independence from Mexico in 1836 the Texans fought a military campaign against numerically superior Mexican forces. The famous siege of the Alamo took place at this time where all 187 defenders were killed including famous frontiersmen Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie. The Mexicans were eventually defeated and the Republic of Texas was created and in 1845 it became the 28th State of the United States.
