Signals, the Recommendation states, ´For considerable periods during the operations inter-communications depended almost entirely on despatch riders. The six despatch riders whose names are put forward showed exceptional devotion to duty at such times. They were, further, frequently employed as patrols to locate units and headquarters, a duty which they carried out with complete disregard of the danger involved.´ 2329075 Signalman Ignatius Rowland-Jones, M.M. was recorded as a casualty, 1.6.1940, during the arduous and intensive operations leading to the withdrawal of the Allied Forces from Dunkirk; he was 19 years old and is commemorated on the Dunkirk Memorial.
