Pair: Private James Simpson, 13th Foot Ghuznee 1839 (Buglar Corpral [sic] Jams. Simpson, XIII P.A.L.I.) naming impressed around edge, with contemporary replacement swivel straight bar suspension; Defence of Jellalabad 1842, 2nd ´Flying Victory´ type (James Simpson, 13th Foot), impressed naming, edge bruising and contact marks, the first fine, the second good very fine (2) Estimate £ 1,200-1,600 Private James Simpson, born Battersea, London, 1807; enlisted in the 13th Regiment of Foot, January 1826; served with the Army of the Indus in the Afghanistan Campaign, 1838-42; present at the Storming of Ghuznee, 23.7.1839; the Forts of Tootumdurra, 30.9.1840; and Joolgah in the Kohistan, 3.10.1840; present at the several engagements in forcing the Passes from Cabul to Jellalabad in 1841, and in Defence of the latter fortress during 1841 and 1842; at Jugdullock, 8.9.1842; Tazeen, 13.9.1942; and at the Capture of Cabul, 15.9.1842. Discharged, May 1847, after 21 years and 114 days with the Colours. Private Simpson was admitted to an In Pension, July 1875 and died November 1877.
