Hanby, Deputy Chief Engineer, Eastern Bengal Railways, Later Municipal Commissioner, Dehra Dun a) The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, 2nd type, Civil Division, Member´s (M.B.E.) breast Badge, silver, in Royal Mint case of issue b) Coronation 1937, privately engraved in large serif capitals ´Wrey Hanby. Commr. Mcpl Bd. Dehra Dun´, in card box of issue, mint state, with the related miniature awards, and the following documents &c.: - Bestowal Document for the M.B.E., dated 9.6.1938 - A Superb Presentation Photograph Album, 540mm x 385mm, leather bound, the cover surmounted by a silver plaque engraved ´Presented to W.A.E. Hanby, Esq., by the Officers of the Eastern Bengal Railway 1917´, containing 89 photographs, many of them annotated and of large format, c.1880-1920, depicting Railway and Civilian life in India (lot) Estimate £ 300-400 M.B.E. London Gazette 9.6.1938 Wrey Edward Hanby, Esq., Municipal Commissioner, Dehra Dun, United Provinces. Mr. Wrey Edward Hanby, M.B.E., joined the engineering branch of the Public Works Department in Bengal, c.1888, and spent most of his career working for the Eastern Bengal State Railway, retiring in 1917 as a Deputy Chief Engineer. Later appointed Municipal Commissioner, Dehra Dun, Hanby served for eleven years as a member of the Dehra Dun Municipal Board, 1927-38, and played an instrumental role in the new Dehra Water Scheme.
