London Gazette 1.1.1916 Hilton, Brevet Major G., King´s Own Scottish Borderers Major George Hilton, D.C.M., born November 1872; enlisted in the Scots Guards, April 1892; served during the Sudanese Campaign whilst attached to the Sudanese Regiment, Egyptian Army; present at the Battles of the Atbara, 8.4.1898 (wounded, Mentioned in Despatches and awarded the D.C.M.) and Khartoum, 2.9.1898; served with his parent Regiment in South Africa, and present at the Advance on Kimberley, including the actions at Belmont, 23.11.1899; Enslin; Modder River, 28.11.1899; and Magersfontein; operations in the Orange Free State, including the actions at Poplar Grove; Driefontein, 10.3.1900; Vet River; and Zand River; Commisisoned Second Lieutenant, 1st Battalion, Duke of Cornwall´s Light Infantry, 23.5.1900, and present with the Regiment in the Transvaal, including the actions near Johannesburg and Pretoria; Served in Somaliland, 17.1- 11.10.1901, and took part in operations against the Ogaden Somalis in Jubaland under the command of Colonel T.P.B. Two D.C.M.s were awarded to the Scots Guards for the Sudanese Campaign; one for the Atbara (Hilton´s), and one for Khartoum.
