Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, a large indenture, 1793, certifying the subscription of Houghton James to share no.197 in the theatre, signed by Albany Wallis, Richard Ford and Thomas Hammersley as trustees, large folio document, on vellum, large vignette, 5" x 14" of the new theatre at the top, some discolouration as is usual, very fine. Estimate £ 4,000 This theatre was rebuilt on a large scale by Irish playright and poet, Richard Brinsley Sheridan in 1793 and opened in 1794. The finances were divided into 300 shares. It was burnt down in 1809 and was such a huge loss to Sheridan that the Commons adjourned as a mark of sympathy.
