London and Westminster Bank, £100 shares, £20 paid, 18(40), black on cream paper, small plain format, very fine. Estimate £ 80 Founded in 1834, the first Joint Stock bank in London. Merged with the London & County Banking Company in 1909 to become the London County and Westminster Bank. Acquired Parr´s Bank in 1918 and in 1923 simplified it´s name to just Westminster Bank Ltd. Merged with the National Provincial Bank in 1968 and became National Westminster Bank, the 5th largest in the world. Popularly known as Natwest it is now part of the RBS group.
