United States of America 1929 (27 June, "los angeles times round-the world air-mail derby", large souvenir envelope, addressed to the Managing Editor of the Los Angeles Times in California, with multi-lingual printed message (English/French/German/Russian/Chinese and Japanese) "This letter is on a race around the world by air-mail, east bound. Postal authorities are requested to expedite in every way possible and to forward this letter according to the route shown on the envelope. This is a test of speed and the efficiency of air mail.", franked 1926-27 Air 20c. single and block of six, 1927-28 10c. with Los Angeles duplex cancellations, Germany 1928 Welfare fund 5pf. + 5pf. to 25pf. + 10pf. with Berlin cancellations of 13 July, Russia 1926 Esperanto 14k. (2, centres faded) with Moscow cancellations of 16 July, Japan 1919 Peace 10s., 1928 Enthronement 6s. and 10s.; the envelope with printed "5" and is accompanied by the front page of the Los Angeles Times of 27 June which gives a detailed explanation of the routes to be travelled by the six letters in the race; fine. A great Air Mail rarity. One of the six covers is held by the Los Angles Times, the whereabouts of three of the remaining four covers is unknown. Photo Estimate £ 3,000-3,500
