Lot: 122

Barbados 1861-70 no watermark, 1d. pale blue lower left corner block of twelve (4x3), variety imperforate, fresh unused without gum; some creasing in margins, otherwise fine. A very rare and spectacular multiple. Brandon (2007) and R.P.S. (2008) Certificates. S.G. 23a, £4,500+. Photo Estimate £ 4,000-4,500 Note: The block is accompanied by a colour photograph of an imperforate lower right corner strip of six from the Sir James Marshall collection offered by Robson Lowe in 1947. From the unusual separation in the margins, one can determine that the block offered above comes from the same sheet. The strip has perforation guide marks, which were added on 4 June 1866, proving that the stamps were printed after this date and are therefore from Plate 2
