William I 'the Conqueror' (1066-1087), 'Canopy' Type, Penny, 1070-1072, Thetford, Godric, crowned bust facing, under canopy, rev. + [GO]DRIC ON ÐEOTFODI, 1.09g [16.8grns], 1h (Baldwin 40, 3 May 2005, lot 120 same dies; Allen [BNJ 2012], p. 82; North 843; BMC III; Spink 1252), an evident field find with pitting in areas and with surface stress to right of bust and a small edge knock at 8 o'clock, otherwise lightly toned and full, fine or bolder in most parts, an evidently exceptionally rare type given the absence of a comparable specimen on SCBI/EMC, and only one other traced in public commerce
