Lot: 506

Chartered Bank of India, Australia & China $500, Hong Kong, 1 October 1926, serial number R/E 131836 pink-red, pale green & violet-grey, pagoda and boats in oval frame at centre, arms top centre flanked by a lion and unicorn, value low centre, left right and at each corner, two manuscript signatures, reverse blue, bank building at centre. Of this type in Issued form the cataloguers know of only two survivors in uncancelled form, along with perhaps three or four pieces that were cancelled by the bank, either after withdrawal or cancelled for use as a specimen, as it would appear the Bank did not order specimens but subsequently had need for them when forgeries appeared in circulation. The cataloguers are unaware of another issued note of this type being offered, and despite its used condition it is still highly presentable. Spink expects a solid result. (Ma S40, P46) tape repair at left centre, almost fine and of the highest rarity, an important discovery note Estimate HK$ 300,000-400,000
