Moderno (late 15th century) Orpheus and Euridice, circular bronze plaquette, 105.5mm., a fine old cast, brown patina At left Orpheus, a mantle tied around his neck, stands in a rocky landscape holding his viol, awaiting Eurydice who is led forward by a winged demon. Behind him two other demons look out past the gates of the Underworld. Treble moulded rim. One of a series telling the story of Orpheus. The figure of Orpheus might be the model for the figure of Apollo in a tondo of the Judgement of Midas by Cima de Conegliano in the Galleria, Parma.
