Unknown Italian Medallist (c.1500-1530) Alberto Pio of Savoy, bronze medal, 70mm., an old cast, the details rough on the obverse as is often the case, grey brown patina on obverse, warmer brown on reverse, pierced at 12 o´clock Obverse: bust almost to right, head in profile to right, wearing flat cap with back turned down, furred gown, and Collar and Badge of the Order of Saint Michael, ALBERTVS PIVS DE SABAVDIA CARPI COMES Reverse: a lamb in flames on a tall square, garlanded altar, on one side the inscription VNI, all within a wreath of palm branch at left and laurel branch at right Alberto Pio of Savoy (1475-1531), Count of Carpi, served Francis I and received the Order of St Michael in about 1522.
