Giovanni Francesco Enzola (fl. 1455-78) Seal of Lorenzo Roverella, Bishop of Ferrara, oval bronze plaquette, 86mm. x 55mm., a good old cast, attractive medium brown patina, trace of number in ink on reverse, with doublle pierced mount at 12 o´clock Beneath a triple Gothic portico, Saint George, nimbate and armoured, on horseback galloping left, attacks with his lance the dragon, while behind and to the left stands the daughter of the king of Cappadocia. In the exergue, below three arches, Bishop Lorenzo, wearing mitre and holding a crozier, kneels between two shields, legend around .DNI. LAURENTII. ROUERELLE - D. GRACIA. EPISCOPI. FERRAIE Cast from the impression of the episcopal seal of Lorenzo Roverella, Bishop of Ferrara (1460-1474), attributed to Giovanni Francesco Enzola (active 1455-1478), who was Master of the Mint at Ferrara in 1472-73.
