Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation, $25, Hong Kong, 1 December 1884, serial number 38000 (the note illustrated in the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank collection serial number 37983), brown and white, value in red lattice background top left and right, value in red low left and right, Promises to pay the Bearer on demand at its office here $25 or the equivalent in the currency of the island in text at centre, value received, two manuscript signatures below for the Accountant and the Chief Manager, red handstamp foochow low centre, rev. red, arms at centre, value at left and right (PS.323, see Cribb, Money in the Bank page 154 for similar), a pleasing Ashby & Co. engraving, pink cancelled handstamps.
