Seychelles Mauritius Used In Seychelles The "B64" Obliterator Covers 1883 (9 Nov.) envelope to Bordeaux, bearing 1883 (July) 16c. on 17c. cancelled with a fair upright strike and showing, at right, despatch c.d.s. without code (believed to be the latest recorded date of use of this datestamp) alongside indistinct Ligne T datestamp, the reverse with three French transit c.d.s.; the envelope with two tears on face panel and a little soiled. A scarce cover being from the first mail since July during the period of a smallpox epidemic. Photo Estimate £ 1,300-1,600 Note: In the new currency 17c. was first made the equivalent of 4d. for the U.P.U. letter rate but this caused trouble with Berne and so the rate was reduced to 16c. provenance: H.V.
