Germany, Death of Johann Friedrich Borsig, 1854, AE 79, by W. Kullrich, bust of Borsig left, rev. allegorical figure seated holding steam engine and laurel wreath, attributes of industry around (BDM.III/245; M. -; Swan cat. -), considerable original lustre, extremely fine Johann Borsig was one of the founders of the locomotive industry in nineteenth century Germany and established his manufacturing company at Berlin in 1837. He was succeeded by his son Albert in 1851
