Great Britain 1855 (13 Oct.) 1d. pink postal stationery envelope sent from Germany to Edinburgh, address panel showing superb strikes of the black Graefrath dispatch and red London Paid transit c.d.s´s, red “P.” in circle and crossed through manuscript German rate “7”, the original eight-page letter included, this together with the fact that the 1d. envelope was not accepted for postage in Germany prompted the sender to note under the flap “If this should cost more than it ought, mind set it down on my account. I have no proper paper”; a most colourful and extremely unusual usage. Photo
