Auction: 313 - Numismatic Collector's Series - Ft. Worth, TX
Lot: 295
IN. Newport. Bank of North America. $5. (IN-480 S5). Copper plate. 1850s. Two women, cherub and eagle in large ornate 5. Washington, Franklin. FDU. This appears to be the same plate used to print the $5 Trenton Banking Company notes (NJ-565 S10, Wait-2413). The original bank title was ground off, and the new title added to the plate. The state and city have also been replaced. When you hold this plate in your hands, you are holding the evidence for a crime committed over 150 years ago! A fascinating piece of criminal and banking history. Lightly scratched, slightly curled, but otherwise qutie presentable.
