South India, Telegu-Choda (12th-13th century), uniface gold Pagoda, 3.43g, on a flan with five lion motifs, four obverse punches: legend read as Bhujavi in Tamil Grantha script, or Bhujabha in Telegu, two large 'Sris', a spear between sun and moon, (type of Mitchiner, CHSI, vol.1 311; Chattopadhyaya 426), some punches a little worn, about uncirculated and scarce
Over 16,000 coins bearing variants of the Bhujavi / Bhujavira, Bhujaba (la) legend were found in Kodur in the Nellore District in 1913, and it is still uncertain exactly who issued them, but they are usually ascribed to the Telegu-Chodas. Many rulers in the area of Nellore and Cuddapah assumed the title Bhujabalavira during this period.
