South India, Kalachuris of Kalyana (1156-84), gold Pagoda, 3.41g, obv. on a flan with five lion motifs, four obverse punches: legend read as (Ka)tacheh in Devanagari, two large 'Sris', a sun and moon within a beaded frame, rev. a single punch on a haymarked field (Mitchiner, CHSI, vol.1 277; Chattopadhyaya 116-7), gem uncirculated, rare in this condition
Chattopadhyaya lists this type with a Devanagari legend among those 16,000 coins found in Kodur in the Nellore District in 1913. Although it is uncertain exactly who issued them, this type has been ascribed to the Kalachuris of Kalyana during the time of Bijjala Kalachuri.
