Spain: 1834 Royal Loan of Charles V, first Pretender to the Spanish throne, 1000 francs, #12004, signed by Baron le Haber as agent for the loan, black. Carlos de Bourbon claimed the throne following the death of his older brother King Ferdinand VII in 1833. However, liberal influences favoured the young daughter of the dead King which caused the first Carlist War which was finally lost in 1840. To finance this cause these bonds were issued by financier Solomon Baron von Haber, banker to the court of Baden. Worm holes bottom right, heavy centre fold but F-VF and rare.
