Fiji: The Polynesia Company Limited, £2 shares, 18[69], #86, vignettes at left with natives and palms, black. This Melbourne registered company operated in Fiji attracting settlers from Australia and the United States to establish plantations for cotton and other crops. It became embroiled in the enslaving of natives from other islands to work the plantations which continued despite the attepts of the Royal Navy to stop it. Fiji was finally ceded to Great Britain in 1874. VF and rare.
