French Colonies - Martinique. The Brian Brookes Collection
Franked Postal History
Later General French Colonies Issues
1872 (28 Sept.) entire from St. Pierre to Paris, endorsed "2" at top left denoting the double rate, in this case via British packet, bearing Napoleon 80c., Ceres 1871 40c. and 1872-77 5c. and 15c., clear to predominantly large margins, tied by tied by "mqe" lozenges and framed "2/10" postman marking, the latter most infreqeuntly cancelling the franking. To our knowledge, the only four-colour franking recorded, in the Napoleon and Ceres issues, originating from Martinique, this example is additionally enhanced by its freshness and cleanly struck handstamps, as well as the rare cancellation. Signed Miro. Maury 10, 13, 17, 22. Photo
