Tribal Tax- Ukuambi Tribe
Trio of registration cards plus one control card the earliest covering the years 1936-40, 1936 endorsed "Said in Karibib" in manuscript, the following two years paid with Bradbury Wilkinson London 5/- overprints, 1939 paid with small format S.W.A. 5/- revenue overprinted "Ukuambi", last two years marked "exempted" , the second card bearing payments for 1944-46 paid with 5/- grey and brown overprinted "ukuambi/ s.w.a." (large type), and 1937 1½d. brown postage surcharged, the final card bearing payments for 1951-57 paid with 1937 postage 1½d. surcharge, 1949 UPU postage 5/- on ½d. (3), "Van Riebeck" Postage 7/6d. on 2d. deep violet, the final two years paid with 7/6d. surcharge 2d. deep blue green coronation (one trimmed) for a colourful and most attractivefour colour franking showing very late usage. A superb group of these very rare cards; only 11 from the Ukambi tribe are recorded of which these three are the finest. Photo
