Tribal Tax- Okavango Tribe
Collection of Registration cards (4), requisitions (5) and correspondence letters (1), relating to Okavango tribe, the requisitions ordering 5/- stamps in batches of between 20 and 3000, the correspondence from the Native Affairs officer requesting the status of the 'Penalty' overprint further surcharged for Tribal Tax. "Should the stamps be used or should they be returned for replacement" to which he receives the reply "Though the word PENALTY should have been ruled through there is no objection to their use". The first card bears payment for 1937-42, whilst one stamp has fallen off over time, the remaining years are paid by the aforementioned 'Penalty' and 'Okavango' overprint on 1931 postage 5/- green and brown, the other three years paid by 5/- on 1931 ½d black and emerald showing both 5/- surcharges for this issue, the second card bearing payments for 1937 and 1938 franked with small format South Africa revenue 5/- black and greenish slate overprinted s.w.a./ Okavango, with 1931 'Boete' 5/- green and brown (damaged,), the next card bears 5/- on ½d. 1931 ½d black and emerald single payment for 1942, the final card blank.
