1859 (12 Mar.) envelope from Sandhurst to Edinburgh, bearing Octagonal 1/- (cut-into) and Queen on Throne rouletted 6d., both tied by Barred Numeral "4", showing despatch d.s., red Registered London d.s. (21.5) and handstruck "d6" with, on reverse, Melbourne and arrival datestamps. Photo

Note:: The European and Australian Royal Mail lost considerable money with its services to Australia and went bankrupt. P&O already had a service to Mauritius and agreed to extend this to Australia. This route only lasted to March 1860 when the route was change via Galle (Ceylon).
