1857 (19 Oct.) envelope from Maldon to Locarno, bearing marginal "registered" 1/- and Woodblock marginal pair (cut-into at right) and a single from the top right corner, all clearly cancelled by Barred Numeral "60", showing "Crown/registered" h.s. and circular-framed "pd", both in red, London Registered transit d.s. (13.1), Calais entry c.d.s., "charge" h.s. and, on reverse, despatch, Melbourne, Basel and arrival datestamps. A fine and most attractive franking. Photo

Note: 2/6d. represents an underpayment by 1/4d. of the 3/10d. registered rate via UK and France. The deficiency does not appear to have been collected.
