Indiana Southern Railway Co., First Mortgage bond, $1000, 1866, no.8415, signed by Samuel J. Tilden as Trustee, large format bond with vignettes of steam train and allegorical figures, black, green underprint, red seal, with coupons, good very fine. Estimate £ 60 Samuel Jones Tilden (1814-1886) was a leader in the Democracy Free Soil Movement, and a relentless reformer. He helped to destroy the Tweed Ring, which catapulted him to the Governship of New York. Tilden lost the presidential elction to Hayes in 1876 by just one electoral vote.
