(x) The important Brunswick Waterloo Medal awarded to Major C. Pott, who commanded the Uhlan Cavalry

Germany, Brunswick, Waterloo 1815 (Carl Pott. Maior. Uhl, Esq.), good very fine

Carl Pott commanded the Uhlan squadron (some 235 men) in the Duke of Brunswick's Contingent during the Waterloo Campaign; one of only two cavalry units in this formation, they were the only Allied cavalry regiment to carry lances during the battle. Heavily engaged at Quatre Bras on 16 June, they are noted as charging a unit of French cuirassiers with the Duke of Brunswick at their head when he received his mortal wound - a subject later famously memorialised in painting and print; it seems likely Major Pott was an eyewitness to this tragic circumstance.
