A Great War Combat Report of Captain E. 'Mick' Mannock, V.C., D.S.O. & 2 Bars, M.C. and Bar, Royal Air Force

Royal Air Force Combat Report, signed and dated for 17th May 1918, flying S.E.5a D.278 in search of Two seater Albatross Time:- 2.30pm Locality:- 2 miles N. E. of Ypres.

"Observed the E.A. crossing the line by Ypres. Climbed North and then East, intercepting E.A. Fired approximately 200 rounds at close range during a fight which lasted about one minute, the E.A. alternately spinning and diving. At about 4,000 feet the E.A. flamed, and eventually struck the ground at the point referred to, and burnt out." The report has the following written by Mannock's own hand "The first was observed by all members of the patrol".
