A Great War D.S.O. group of five to Major H. S. Marshall, Royal Garrison Artillery who saw service with the 29th Division at Gallipoli and was additionally 'Mentioned' on two occasions

Distinguished Service Order, G.V.R., silver-gilt and enamel; 1914-15 Star (Capt H. S. Marshall. R.G.A.); British War and Victory Medals with M.I.D. oak leaves (Major H. S. Marshall.); Delhi Durbar 1911, silver issue very slight enamel damage to the D.S.O. and the pin removed from the top bar for ease of mounting, otherwise very fine (5)

Henry Seymour Marshall was born on 5 March 1879, at Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey. He was educated at Eastbourne College from 1894-98 and at Cooper's Hill which was the Royal Indian Engineering College, Egham, Surrey. He became a 2nd Lieutenant with the Royal Garrison Artillery on 10 January 1900 and was promoted to Lieutenant on 3 April 1901. He served at Malta and Gibraltar until 1904 before he serves in India. Promoted to Captain on 10 February 1911, Marshall returned to the U.K. in November 1914 with the 90th Heavy Brigade. He is then sent to Egypt in March 1915 before landing at Cape Helles, Gallipoli in April serving with the Artillery of the 29th Division where he commanded the 90th Heavy Brigade between April-July 1915. He then commanded the 14th Siege Battery between July 1915 - August 1915 before returning to the 90th which he commanded from 28 August 1915 - 21 September 1915. He is promoted to Major on 16 October 1915 and reverts to commanding the 14th Siege Battery from 16 December 1915 until he is evacuated in early 1916. Marshall is sent to France in April 1916 where he remained until being sent back to the U.K. on 24 June 1917. He retired with the rank of Major on 16 December 1922 and became the Secretary of the Royal Soldiers Daughters' Home, Hampstead, London. Marshall died on 25 January 1937.
