Edward Alfred Haywood was born at St.Pancras, London and was a Capstan Man prior to enlistment. He had served with the 3rd V.B. King's Royal Rifles before he enlisted at Inverness on 8 February 1892. Haywood first saw service overseas from 14 September 1892 serving in Malta until 18 February 1895. He then serves in Gibraltar between 19 February 1895 - 29 September 1897 before going to Cyprus where he remains until 9 January 1898. His next destination is Egypt where he serves from 10 January 1898 - 2 March 1900 when he then proceeds direct to South Africa where he remains until 30 July 1902. He finally returns home and was discharged on 4 February 1904.
