(x) Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Talana, Orange Free State, Transvaal (5293 Pte. B. McKiernan, Rl. Irish Fus:), good very fine

Bernard McKiernan was born in 1875 at Drumcree, Portadown, County Armagh and was a labourer by trade. He was serving in the 3rd (Volunteer) Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers upon his joining the Regular Army on 14 May 1895, whence he joined the 1st Battalion. He served overseas with his Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War (Queen's Medal & 3 clasps, King's Medal & 2 clasps) and was released in May 1907.
